Anatomic Girths
Anatomic girths in European calfskin, each shaped for a different conformation to help your saddle sit where it should.
What is your saddle doing?
Saddle slides forward onto the shoulder
Curved AnatomicA forward curve that meets the girth groove, common in warmbloods, cobs and ponies.
Girth sits close to the elbow or rubs
Freedom AnatomicA cut-away front that reduces pressure and rubbing behind the elbow.
Saddle slips backwards
Athletic AnatomicA rearward curve that helps stabilise the saddle on athletic types like Thoroughbreds.
Clear girth groove, saddle sits still
Symmetry AnatomicOur standard anatomic girth, for a defined wither and well-shaped shoulders.
How our anatomic girths work
Every girth is shaped to your horse's conformation rather than being a straight strap. Each has an ErgoFit foam core that cushions and supports while allowing natural movement, smooth padded edges that curve away from the horse to reduce rubbing, curved stainless steel roller buckles, and triple-layer elastic at both ends. They are made from European calfskin leather in Black or Havana Brown.
If your saddle moves forward, backward or rubs behind the elbow, the right girth shape can help it sit where it should. If you are not sure which shape your horse needs, send us a photo of your horse's girth area with the saddle on and we will help you choose.
Girth questions
Do I need a short or long girth?
It depends on your saddle. Short girths fasten to the long billets on dressage and monoflap saddles. Long girths fasten to the short billets on jumping and general purpose saddles. All four of our girth shapes are available as short girths (22" to 30") and long girths (48" to 58").
How do I know which girth shape my horse needs?
Watch where your saddle ends up after riding. If it moves forward onto the shoulder, choose the Curved. If it slips back, choose the Athletic. If your girth sits close to the elbow or rubs there, choose the Freedom. If the saddle stays put and your horse has a clear girth groove, the Symmetry is the one.
What size girth do I need?
Short girths come in 22" to 30" and long girths in 48" to 58". If you are unsure, tell us the size of your current girth and your saddle, and we will recommend a size.
