    Flash Bridles

Anatomical flash bridles and nosebands in English Sedgwick leather. Every Henry James flash noseband has a fully removable flash, and each style is also available with a fixed flash.

    Choosing a flash bridle

A flash noseband is a cavesson with a second, thinner strap that fastens below the bit. It helps keep the mouth gently closed and the bit steady, which is why it is one of the most popular nosebands for flatwork and jumping.

    Removable or fixed flash

Every Henry James flash noseband has a fully removable flash, so the same bridle can be used as a plain cavesson when your horse does not need the flash. If you prefer, each style is also available with a fixed flash.

    Flash or Comfort Flash?

Our Flash Bridle has a classic padded noseband. The Comfort Flash Bridle has a wider, more padded noseband to spread pressure over a larger area of the nose.

Why choose a Henry James flash bridle

Every Henry James flash bridle uses our anatomical headpiece, shaped and padded to spread pressure over the base of the poll and sit around the base of the ear, with an offset throatlash that helps avoid pressure on the cranial nerves. Each is made in English Sedgwick leather.

    Flash bridle questions

What does a flash noseband do?

A flash noseband adds a thin strap below the bit to a standard cavesson. It helps keep the mouth gently closed and the bit stable.

    Can I remove the flash?

Yes. Every Henry James flash noseband has a fully removable flash, so you can use the bridle as a cavesson whenever you like. Each style is also available with a fixed flash.

How tight should a flash strap be?

Snug but never tight. Your horse should still be able to chew and swallow comfortably, and the strap should sit below the bit without pressing on the nostrils.

Can I use a standing martingale with a flash noseband?

Only attach a standing martingale to the cavesson part of the noseband, never to the flash strap below the bit.
